Marysville Memo
November 2020
Thank You!
A few reminders
- If you have not already done so, please complete and return your child's Data Verification Form as soon as possible. It is imperative that we have the most current contact information. If you did not received this form, or have misplaced it, please contact the school office.
- Please read, sign and return the Computer Use Agreement.
- With the seasonal changes in weather, indoor shoes are now necessary. Please send a pair of running shoes that can be left at school. Hats & mitts are a good idea especially with the additional outdoor learning time.
- Student Progress Reports will be sent home on November 20th.
MPS Poinsettia Fundraiser
Marysville's Poinsettia Fundraiser is back for another year! The campaign will run from October 27 to November 12. Payment to accompany orders. Cash, or cheques payable to Marysville P.S. are accepted. Orders will be ready for pick up on November 27 at the school.
Indigenous Education Month
Students and staff continue to find ways to deepen their knowledge and learn together about our shared history and build stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.
Later this month, our lovely Bridget will be leading us in the craft of making corn husk dolls and the Haudenosaunee legend about a doll that came to life to entertain children, but spent so much time admiring herself that she lost her face.
Corn husk dolls, a symbol of the harvest, originated in Indigenous cultures where corn was a staple crop. The husks were put to good use lighting lamps, filling pillows, and making baskets, masks, arrow quivers, ceremonial dolls and more.
Gould Lake @ MPS
We may not have been able to travel to Gould Lake this fall for their Outdoor Education program but, Nate Zahn, was able to bring the experiential outdoor learning to our backyard!
In the Gr. 4-8 Junior Food Web Program, students explored the roles of producers and consumers, the flow of energy within a food web and food pyramids.
The K-3 Primary program, Needs of All Living Things & Habitat Assessment, had students reflect on their own pets at home and their need for water, food, shelter, and space. Students were able to build an understanding of those same needs for wild animals like deer, fox, and beaver and then apply that knowledge through a Habitat Assessment of our school yard.
School Picture Day November 4
Remembrance Day - Nov 11
Students and staff will honour and remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict and peace, with a ceremony held at the school.
