Marysville Memo
March 2021
Principal's Message
So are we coming in like a lamb or a lion? I can't tell yet!
I'd like to express my gratitude to this amazing community. First, to our wonderful School Advisory Council, who meet and work for our students. It was lovely to meet you last month! And second, to our families who have been so supportive of the school regarding following the COVID protocols. Thank you so much for your support in keeping everyone safe.
Please see one of our school fundraising initiatives below - we have signed up for Flipgive, which costs parents/families nothing! Thanks to our Lisa who got us all set up!
I have had a wonderful first month at Marysville, visiting the classes each week and seeing the engaging and challenging activities staff have planned. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and part of the community.
All the best,
Mrs. Diamond
Ministry Revises COVID-19 Screening Tool
The province has released a new version of the COVID-19 School & Child Care Screening Tool. The revised tool includes changes to stay-at-home requirements for those with symptoms and isolation requirements for household contacts of those with symptoms. A printable/downloadable version from KFL&A Public health is also available.
1. Students and staff with any new or worsening symptom of COVID-19, even those with only one symptom, must stay home until:
- They receive a negative COVID-19 test result.
- They receive an alternative diagnosis by a health care professional, or
- It has been 10 days since their symptom onset and they are feeling better.
2. Students and staff are now required to stay home from school or child care if anyone in their household has new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19, and has been recommended for isolation and testing. All asymptomatic household contacts of those with symptoms are required to quarantine until the symptomatic household member:
- receives a negative COVID-19 test result, or
- receives an alternative diagnosis by a health-care professional
If the symptomatic individual tests positive for COVID-19, or is not tested, and does not receive an alternative diagnosis from a health-care professional, the symptomatic individual must isolate (including from household members) for 10 days from symptom onset. All household contacts must isolate until 14 days from their last contact with the symptomatic individual (a total of 24 days if the symptomatic individual is not able to effectively self isolate from other members of the household).
Free Menstrual Hygiene Products Available in Limestone Schools
Marysville P.S. offers free menstrual hygiene products to students to remove barriers and ensure equitable access for all.
Female and gender-neutral washrooms now have menstrual hygiene products in easily accessible locations for students.
The products are free to students. Students may take items for use at school, or at home, as needed.
Access to menstrual products can be a barrier for many students. Studies show that one in seven young women and non-binary people in Canada will miss some school because they don't have access to pads and tampons, largely because they cannot bear the financial burden of purchasing their own. Other times, students forget to plan ahead or find themselves in an emergency situation.
Thank You!

Superheroes in the Primary Class
My superhero’s name is Super snake. His powers are invisibility, breathing fire, teleportation and breathing plasma. His weaknesses are soup, oil, pudding, pie and juice. His enemy is Jagow the jaguar. They really do fight a lot. -Autumn
My superhero name is Gangster. He has a big money S on his chest. His power is chain smack. He whips people with his gold chain only for protection. His arch enemy is Slave.
-Teagen
My superhero’s name is Fire boy. He has fireboosters on his hands and legs. Fire boy has a fireball on his chest. The fireball on his chest can make him throw a fireball at his enemy. His enemy is Vixon. He also makes his enemies sleepy with his steaming hot hands. With Vixon asleep he won’t be able to flood the city. -Scout
My superhero looks like me. My superhero has powers to fly. She flies to help people. -Leah
Spider-Man is my Superhero. Spider-Man’s weakness is water because spiders hate water. His Power is Shooting webs. He hangs from stuff. -Serena
My superhero is a black and purple cat. My superhero can travel with strings from poles. She is scared of other cats. She can wrap strings around her enemy. She has friends. They are superheroes too. -Anneliese
My superhero’s name is Super Dragon. Her power is to see through and fire bomb. Every day at Dragon school she got bullied. One day she got bullied enough! She got bullied too much. She did not like it at all so then she got so mad. So she got her first superpower which was firebombing. Everybody learned their lesson not to bully her. She uses her see through power to see if the bullies are hiding anything. -Maeve
My super hero’s name is Super Wolfy. She is a blue, green, pink, black, purple and brown wolf. Her story started as a normal grey wolf and it loved all elements but her mother did not so she abandoned her own pup to live in the forest by herself. The little grey wolf became the color of the elements and got the elemental powers. That's how she became Super Wolfy. She also made an alliance with the dragons and the rest of the dog family. Her power is all of the elements. Her weakness is not an element. Her enemies are the foxes and cat family. The reason why is because foxes are not that good of friends with wolves because they fight for territory. The cat family is also one of her enemies because wolves are part of the dog family and cats and dogs do not get along. -Tala
The Ignored Can of Tomato Soup
It's been 231 days now, it gets lonely up here. I see them open the cupboard with smiling faces. First, it was the crackers, then the cream of mushroom soup and then my best friend the triscuits. There's a few other old cans but they don't talk much. I just want to be loved, I want to see the light. I just wish I could be noticed and not forgotten. I didn't always live here. I used to live in this big place that people call the grocery store. I lived with other cans like me but they were all chosen. I was one of the last to be chosen. But, there were some nice cans. I also met the prunes family, they live in a clear box. It looks cramped in there and they would always argue but at least they were funny. I looked at my expiration date yesterday and I expire in 4 days. I’m getting nervous I will never get picked. 3 days left, I keep having memories of the grocery store. I miss my old friends and I'm so alone up here. 2 days left... I wish I could just be eaten with some parmesan and basil. 1 day left and I know that there's no chance. I already feel like I'm getting weaker. 2 minutes left. I'll miss this shelf. 5 seconds left goodbye world I'll miss you.
